Confidentiality and Ethics
Information Commissioner's Office: ZB845743
Ethics: It's important that clients have the confidence that they will be treated fairly by their therapist, and that the therapy room is a safe place, both emotionally and physically. To this end my professional registration bodies, the UKCP and the BPA, require that registrants adhere to their respective codes of ethics. Serious breaches of the code of ethics result in registrants being de-registered. Also, in case of a dispute between client and therapist, the UKCP offers an arbitration service.

British Psychodrama Association code of ethicsConfidentiality: Discretion and confidentiality are fundamental to the success of psychotherapy. Clients need to feel secure in sharing anything about themselves or their history, without concern that their disclosures might reach others. Without this assurance, the openness required to explore their deepest fears, desires, and frustrations — essential for meaningful therapeutic progress — becomes impossible.
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the ethical codes upheld by both the UKCP and BPA, and it is a principle I hold with the utmost seriousness. My work within prisons often involves engaging with high-profile individuals who attract significant media interest. This experience has honed my skills in safeguarding sensitive information, ensuring absolute security at all times.
